Thats fine if you already know everyone in your alliance have no friends out side it and your in a kinda small alliance.
/signed, thought i already did but this idea is just somthing so basic and neccecary and there is no real reason why it shouldnt/couldnt be done.

I see it not like making the alliance roaster better would be the same as guild roaster u would have all other alliance guilds roaster's u shoud be able to see every allied guild roaster because that improves alliance teamwork and also helps ppl to work together

Im officer in a local alliance. we only got 4 guilds. and still. this would be a huge help. Cant think about how much it would do in a full alliance.

I would like to be able to see who all is on in aliance without haing to ask...is xxx on in yyy guild? Friends list is fine, but when your in a full aliance with over 100 people total in aliance, you DO NOT have room for everyone in there. Let alone the ones on ignore list. I have been thinking that it would be beneficial to all to be able to see who is on in aliance since the beginning of alliances.

I have a way to do this so it is not clutter, but still worthwhile. Once a guild enters an alliance the roster changes. You have a + and - box to collapse each guild in the alliance and your own guild stays on top. That way you can look at everything that is going on in the alliance. This would solve the problem of looking through 100s of members.

I don't really care how it is done but we need a way to see who is on-line alliance wide.

I think of an alliance as groups of people who are coming together. When you have many people coming together for any reason issues may arise. I think this Idea would be awsome to add for guild within an alliance can work out a structure of how they will address issues. If officers/leaders of guilds could see who is on in other guilds within allaince i think it could help with their structure of addressing issues.
ex:Member in guild A says or does something to offend ppl in guilds B,C,D... But at that time no officer of guild A is on. Officer in guild B can look at their roster and see this, so officer in guild B takes action to deal with the issue or looks for officers in guilds C, D, E.... and they work together to deal with the issue.
Reason this feature could help, instead of member in guild A being address by all or many officers in guilds A, B, C.... and getting the feeling they being attacked cause they may have not realized what they did is offensive and was pure accident. This would help contain issues instead of allowing things to get blown out of proportion and unfortanely destroy the alliance.

/signed for a roster that contains only active players. Inactive players can't be that important to non-guild members of the alliance.

the idea being old, dont mean they should or shouldnt do it. Do think its makes it worthy of a discussion from a GW admin to comment if they feel they would add or will not, to give some closure to it.
And just because GW2 is being formed and they may be busy, but they still need to keep GW players happy and show they do still care bout the developement in GW. Doing this will give a much easier transition from GW => GW2. Beside GW is a prime testing ground to see how some things would work in GW2.

Casting rez sig on this thread.
This is such a significant and compelling feature that it can't be left to die and vanish. As the leader of an alliance, I have enough issues to worry about on a daily basis without having to comb through my friends list constantly to determine which alliance contacts are no longer valid ones and which ones are just plain quiet or dead.
There are of course some drawbacks and the potential for abuse, but the benefits far outweight any potential negatives.
Allow me to offer an example. One of the guilds in my alliance was a quiet one. I was wondering if any of them were even playing and at one point I even forgot who the GL was. One day I ran into one of the guild members through sheer random luck (PUGging in Factions) and we had a successful run of missions and had lots of fun together. After that, their GL was back on and chatting. Turns out that I had PUG'd with that GL's significant other and maybe I got a good word put in for me. Up until that point I didn't know who they were (I had inherited the position as alliance leader after the former had left).
The point is, without knowing who others are in a changing environment, it's hard to maintain communication with the people that matter, making communication worse within the alliance. It's a self defeating problem and if anything it only hurts the community as a whole. People start feeling isolated and then leave the game instead of finding others to have something in common with. In-game activity drops and everyone suffers from a shrinking player pool.
If it's not feasible to have the entire alliance available for viewing, at least the list of all GLs would be nice. Sort of like an emergency hotline between the US and Russia. ANYTHING is better than the complete lack of information which we have now.
